Chen’s arrest and loss of the Ares Garden
𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐧𝐚 | 𝑱𝒆𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒌𝒐𝒐𝒌Chen’s arrest and loss of Ares Garden mark the point where his underground boxing operation becomes an opening for Bruce Wilson to seize control. On December 4, police arrest Chen after searching the bar and finding its ring. Bruce later confirms that he reported Chen and plans to turn the venue into a private club; by the end of the sequence, Chen knows he will no longer be allowed to manage Ares Garden.
Background and the club’s cover
Ares Garden presents itself as a bar, but the business also houses illegal boxing matches. Chen has built a protective arrangement around that dual purpose: he treats the police officers who come to drink well, and some of them attend the fights. The arrangement depends not simply on concealing the ring but on the officers’ willingness to look the other way. Chen is described as a dangerous man, and the officers know it; the club’s apparent normality therefore rests on a mix of hospitality, intimidation, and corruption.
That cover does not protect the operation from a warrant-backed search. The raid also takes place against the background of a planned takeover. In a confrontation with Jungkook Jeon, Bruce Wilson admits that he reported Chen and says he intends to make Ares Garden better by turning it into a second, private club for his most loyal clients. His confidence that Chen will have no choice but to let him do so makes the arrest more than a law-enforcement development: it is also a move in a struggle over who will control the venue.
The raid and Chen’s arrest
At 10:00 a.m. on December 4, Chen arrives in the Ares Garden parking lot and sees a police car. At the entrance he recognizes one of the two officers, Jacob, as a regular customer. Chen asks whether he can help them, and the officers say they are looking for Chen Wu, the bar’s owner. Once he identifies himself, they tell him they have received a report that he organizes illegal boxing matches.
Chen asks whether the officers have a warrant and insists that they answer him. They confirm that they do, then ask him to open the bar so they can inspect it. Inside, they find the Ares Garden ring, a space one officer already knows well. The discovery turns suspicion into evidence visible to the people conducting the search. One officer takes out handcuffs while Chen, seeing what is happening, lowers his head and complies.
The arrest is formally dated and timed at 10:10 a.m. The officer reads Chen his rights: he may remain silent, anything he says may be used against him in court, and he may have an attorney, including one appointed if he cannot afford one. Chen is asked whether he understands and wants to speak. He shakes his head. The officers take him outside and place him in their car. As he looks back at Ares Garden, his sense of loss is sharpened by the sight of a Rolls-Royce he recognizes as Bruce Wilson’s. Chen suspects that something underhanded is happening.
Bruce Wilson’s takeover plan
Bruce’s admission to Jungkook clarifies the connection between the report and the future of the club. He does not deny reporting Chen; instead, he presents the planned conversion as an improvement. Ares Garden is to become a private venue for his most faithful clients. Jungkook challenges the assumption that Chen will simply permit this change, but Bruce replies that Chen will have no choice. The exchange makes the takeover’s coercive logic explicit: the arrest weakens Chen’s position, while Bruce already speaks as though control of the establishment is within reach.
The later events reinforce that reading without resolving every detail of how the transfer will be arranged. At the police station, Bruce pays the substantial bail required for Chen. After signing papers and a release stating that he withdraws his complaint, Bruce leaves quickly; Jungkook also departs, returning to a car driven by Shelby Anderson Barnum. The paperwork concerns the complaint connected to the confrontation, while Chen’s separate loss of authority over Ares Garden remains in place. The sequence does not describe a sale or a formal transfer of ownership, so the concrete consequence is more precise: Chen is told he will no longer be permitted to manage the club.
Consequences and significance
Chen is allowed the remainder of the day and evening to make an announcement at Ares Garden and say goodbye. That limited farewell gives the loss a public, practical dimension. He does not simply leave the police station without the ability to return; he has a final period in which to address the people and place bound up with his management. When he sees Jungkook outside, he asks whether the fight was necessary. Jungkook answers sarcastically that helping him was a pleasure. Their brief exchange places their relationship amid the consequences of the raid: Jungkook has intervened in the conflict, but Chen’s control has not been restored.
The episode also reverses the club’s earlier arrangement with the police. A place whose illegal activity had been sustained in part by officers who drank there and attended fights is now searched under a warrant, and the ring that had been tolerated becomes the concrete basis for Chen’s arrest. Yet the legal action does not produce a clean transfer of power to a neutral authority. Bruce, who admits arranging the report, is positioned to benefit from Chen’s removal and uses his money to secure Chen’s release. The contrast leaves the scene’s central tension intact: Chen is out of custody, but he has lost his role at Ares Garden, while Bruce’s private-club plan advances. The arrest thus changes both Chen’s standing and the venue’s future, turning a concealed operation into contested territory.
